This introduction to puppet dramaturgy will explore the enduring magic of staging the world’s literary masterpieces with puppets. Provided texts include The Ramayana, Punch and Judy, The Love Suicides at Amijima, Anansi stories, and more. Digital to Physical: Computers and Cutting Machines for Puppets

with Myra Su

Sunday, November 10, 2024

10am – 12pm CDT
Cost: $50

To help you save time and your wrists, Digital to Physical: Computers and Cutting Machines for Puppets (Level 1) aims to share digital tools that can help elevate your next puppet project! We will learn how to digitize puppet designs into programs like Photoshop and Illustrator so that physical parts can be made using a craft cutting machine or laser cutter. Most importantly, we will learn ways to retain the human touch in our designs when digitizing them. These techniques are useful in creating shadow puppets and also limbs that can be assembled into a 3D puppet. Prior experience with this software is not necessary.

Single-Session Masterclass In-Person

Object Theatre, Poetry and Imagination as Playground

Masterclass with Gildwen Peronno of RoiZIZO Théâtre

Sunday, November 17, 2024

10am – 1pm CDT
Location: Fine Arts Building, 410 S. Michigan Ave, Studio 433
Cost: $60

What if you came to rub shoulders with the incredible poetry of object theater? Starting with a heap of motley, obsolete objects, we’ll try to discover what lies behind each of them, beyond their utilitarian function: what common memory, what character, what emotion, what personality, what landscape? From there, we’ll do a few “stylistic exercises” with manipulation, writing and acting, and find the keys to making these objects real playmates.

Please Note:

  • Pricing listed below with each workshop.
  • Limited scholarships available upon request, BIPOC encouraged to apply. To request email info@chicagopuppetfest.org with a brief statement of interest/need.
