Fall 2026 Puppetry Workshop:
Worbla Techniques for the Puppet Maker (Level 1) with Chicago Puppet Studio

Worbla Techniques for the Puppet Maker (Level 1) with Chicago Puppet Studio

Chicago Puppet Studio artists take participants through a four-day process in the use of Worbla, a unique and versatile thermoplastic that has incredible uses for puppet artists and puppet makers.

During the 24 hours of this 4 day workshop, students will:

1. Create their own puppet head in plasticine clay
2. Make a negative mold of that head using a simple, tried-and-true papier-mâché process
3. Cast a lightweight Worbla head that can be painted, modified and prepared for performance.
4. Learn specific use of modeling techniques, heat gun, heat knife and possibly hot water bath in working with Worbla.

Students should come prepared on the first day with sketches, inspirational images, and/or ideas about the head they want to sculpt.
